One More Step

I found this song and immediately fell in love with it. One More Step-Lindsay McCaul

Truth be told ~ I cried like a baby!  It reminded me so much of my sister, Melanie.

We did life together…I mean, everything.  We would talk or text every day…we prayed together in the morning, we argued and fought, she was my sandpaper and I was hers. We were always there for each other, walked through this life together.  She was the most beautiful person I know and I was blessed to spend my life as her sister and best friend.

In the last few months of her life she would often talk about what it would be like in heaven, who she would see, how she couldn’t wait to see God and she wanted to dance.

One day when we were sitting in her living room she asked me if I thought she would know all the steps. I asked her what steps and she said to her dance in heaven.  I told she would, it would be natural and she would be very good at it. A few days before she passed away she took the hands of one of her nurses and danced the best she could from her hospital bed. She swayed their hands, moved her feet and shook her shoulders.  She was really enjoying her little dance and then she looked at me and said ‘this is how I will dance in heaven.’

It wasn’t too many days later and she left earth and took One More Step onto heavens streets……

And then she danced!

Check out Lindsay’s music!  You will be blessed!

Upside Down~Inside Out

Our lives have been a little topsy turvy for the last few months.

Life has been turned upside down and inside out for me with the death of my best friend and baby sister, Melanie.  We are home now and I am working to find my ‘new normal’.

I found this devotion in my email and it gave me some encouragement today.

Everyone can use a little encouragement……

This is from Christine Caine’s First Things First email devotion:

Life will eventually turn every person upside down, inside out. No one is immune.

The day that I unexpectedly found out that I was adopted was one of those times. For thirty-three years I thought I was someone else, and then, just like that, I discovered I was not who I thought I was.

But just as life will upend us, so will love.

God’s love, which knows us and claimed us before we were even born, can take us beyond ourselves, as it did Jesus, who left heaven to go to the cross and pass through the grave in order to bring us back home. His love can bring us through emotional earthquakes.

Love like Christ’s can lift us out of betrayal and hurt. It can deliver us from any mess.

Lean into and receive the unconditional, unfailing, indescribable love of our precious Savior. When all else is shaken and fails, HIS LOVE never fails.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)

His Love never fails!

Happy Birthday Dee!

Today we celebrate my sister Dolores. It’s her birthday! Dee is the 3rd born in our family of 5 kids, the 2nd sister..almost the oldest..but not quite!!  I won’t tell you how old she is, but she was born in ’63…you do the math!
It’s funny how when I was a kid being the oldest sister spoke power and authority, but now that we are older, it’s just a number! And a big one at that!
My sister is Mom to Kent, a Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Grandma and Friend.  She has a sweet heart and loves all those that she calls family and friends.  She is loving, kind and very independent!

She has a dog named Willie..he’s part Golden Retriever and something else…not sure what, but it all makes for a great dog.  She says he thinks he’s human, but I think he knows he’s a dog and is worried about her lack of reality! She talks to him like he’s one of her children…says he understands her every word. But in reality, we all know he hears ‘wah, wah, wah’.  He has the wags of his tail and the tilt of his head down to perfect timing….makes her think he knows exactly what she is saying… Good dog, Willie!
Dee recently completed Medical Assistant school.  Woot Woot!  It’s been a lot of work and not always easy, but she never gave up.  Most mornings Keith and I received a text reminding us to pray for her. It was always followed up with news of good  test scores & higher class average. This season of her life helped her realize God does take care of her in all circumstances and she is smarter than she believes.  We are so proud of her!

We don’t live close, so we appreciate social media, phones calls and texts that allow us to stay in touch. We are excited to see where God takes her from here.  His plans are always great!

Happy Birthday Dee!
We love you so much!

Babe & Keith

P.S. Molly says to tell Willie Hi—wah wah wah!

P. P. S. I would post a picture of Dee…but who has one….crazy, but I searched and couldn’t find one. Even crazier, her Facebook photos are all of Willie!

Happy Birthday Melanie!

Today is my sister’s birthday, won’t mention which one, but let’s just say she is growing ever so close to the big five-oh!

Melanie is the baby sister, the one who got away with a lot more than Dee & I did!

I am the oldest daughter and she is the youngest, but our lives have taken similar paths…bet she’s copying me!

Today I want to celebrate her, to let everyone know that she is the sweetest, kindest, most loving person you will ever meet…see I told you she was copying me.  No really, I love her so much and we are not only sisters but best friends. We text each other everyday and talk at least once or twice a week. It’s so much fun being her sister.

We have been there for each other for many changes in our lives, moves with the military, our kids going through the terrible twos and the teenage years, graduations, weddings, grand babies and now empty nesting.

In the middle of all of that moving, growing and raising of children, Melanie was diagnosed with breast cancer.  I remember the day she called me, I had just pulled into the garage with Keith and it was Easter weekend over 7 years ago.  I was in total disbelief, but the big sister in me knew I would have plenty of time to be sad later, at that moment I needed to be her comfort. So, plans were put into place and I flew up and took care of her after the initial surgery and held her hand through a second. She lives in the far away land of New Hampshire. She had a total of 11 surgeries over a period of 2 years and 12 rounds of chemo and 30 rounds of radiation. It was hard to watch her go through those years of surgeries and treatments, but she is a strong person and nothing was going to take her down.  So, here we are today, 7 years later, celebrating her birthday, thanking God for seeing her through one of the toughest times in her life.

I wanted her to write about her journey, but she isn’t ready, said she isn’t able to put it on paper yet and that’s okay. I know that one day she will have a story only she can share.  And that story, that journey, is going to help another mom, daughter, sister who is going through breast cancer get through it. No one can help you get through something unless they have walked the same journey, so one day God is going to take that time in her life and turn into a testimony.  Not only will Melanie be blessed, but God will get all the glory.

She has spoken at different events about her cancer and treatment, participated in Relay for Life, has been called on to mentor several ladies through their initial treatments and volunteers at the wig bank every other week.  She is my hero and I know God put her here for a purpose and she hasn’t even touched the surface of what He has planned for her.

Happy Birthday Melanie…looking forward to many more!

Love you tons!
Your Big Sister!

Weekend Recap

Oh happy weekend….I love spending time with my baby sister!  We have lived on different sides of  the map for most of our adult lives and make the best of every moment we get together.  This trip was no different.
We arrived on Thursday night…happy times when I walked off the plane and saw her waiting for me! Let the talking begin!  How many things can we talk about in a 15 minute walk/shuttle ride to the rental car? Ohhhh, about 50! We were already cutting up, laughing and talking…I think the rental agent thought we were nuts!  But, hey it was late..10:30 pm and we had both been up since 4 am.  Off to the hotel and more talking…I think we collapsed around 12:30…but we were up by 7!  We only had 2 days and so much to do!

We shopped, antiqued, walked, talked, drank coffee, sipped tea, snacked, got pedis, and even went to the cemetery to take flowers to our Dad’s grave. He passed away in 2003 and I had never been!  We had his memorial in Texas where he lived at the time of his death and his wife took him to Michigan to be buried. While I know he isn’t there, I liked being able to take flowers, have a little chat and most of all sharing that moment with my sister. He is greatly missed.

We had so much fun that when I got home and was telling Keith about our weekend, I realized that we did so much of everything except eating!  We would eat breakfast at the hotel in the morning and then have one meal in the late afternoon!  Best diet plan I know!

I am already looking forward to the next visit….
